They already warned us. Thor: Love and Thunder are going to look like Avengers 5 thanks to the cast that’s getting together. The filming of the new installment of the God of Thunder has begun in Australia and it does not stop receiving familiar faces, old friends, and actors that nobody expected. Taika Waititi is putting together a very interesting group of characters.
And no wonder no one wants to miss it. The God of Thunder has become the first Marvel superhero to have four solo installments and, in part, Waititi is to be thanked for that. The humor the director added to Thor: Ragnarok and his quirky style are a perfect fit for Chris Hemsworth and have hit the nail on the head to continue his stories for many years to come.
Chris Hemsworth (Thor):
Chris Hemsworth’s presence in a movie titled Thor: Love and Thunder is no surprise. The God of Thunder will continue to be the protagonist of this adventure, only this time he will be more accompanied than ever. The last time we saw him in Avengers: Endgame, he was aboard the Milano, Peter Quill’s ship. Although we don’t know exactly where they are, we can look forward to seeing them together one more time.
Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie):
Tessa Thompson will revert to being a Valkyrie after playing her for the first time in Thor: Ragnarok. As Thor pointed out in Endgame, Valkyrie now occupies the throne of New Asgard and it seems that this is how we will meet her in Love and Thunder. Of course, when it comes to a warrior of arms to take, it’s only a matter of time before she delegates and joins Thor’s new adventure.
Natalie Portman (Jane Foster):
Comic-Con 2019 left us great news. Natalie Portman returned to the saga but not only as Jane Foster. The actress will put herself in the shoes of Thor. We don’t know what role he will play in the film, but in the comics, the character becomes Thor after the original thunder god is deemed unworthy of Mjölnir.
Christian Bale (Gorr, The God Butcher):
Christian Bale will be the great villain of the film, Gorr the God Butcher. In the comics, he is an alien who has grown up on an arid planet, where he prayed to the gods to help him survive in the harsh living conditions they had to endure. After the death of his family, he decided to seek revenge for what happened.
Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif):
Jaimie Alexander was going to appear in Thor: Ragnarok but, due to scheduling problems, had to postpone his return. In the third installment of Thor we saw many Asgardians die, but Lady Sif was not one of them. According to Kevin Feige, Loki banished her while posing as Odin. In any case, she is back and we are close to knowing what has become of her all this time.
Chris Pratt (Star-Lord):
Another confirmed character is Chris Pratt. As we saw at the end of Endgame, Guardians of the Galaxy now has a new member and it seems they will have to iron out their ego a bit – do you remember the discussion between Thor and Star-Lord about who piloted the ship? However, we must not forget that this is a movie about Thor, not about the group of superheroes, so we still have to know what role he has in the film.
Pom Klementieff (Mantis):
Pom Klementieff came to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and is already a part of the group of superheroes. The actress confirmed in late 2020 that she was in Australia ready to shoot her scenes. Although she is a newcomer to viewers, in fiction she has been with Peter Quill and his family for many years.
Karen Gillan (Nebula):
It has been very interesting to see the evolution of Nebula during all these years. She started out as a heartless being, a kind of killing machine, but, little by little, she has become a very valid battle partner. At the end of Endgame, he is with the Guardians of the Galaxy and may, at last, have found his hole. Karen Gillan has already confirmed that she is ready to step into the warrior’s shoes once again.
Vin Diesel (Groot):
As part of the Guardians that he is, we will see Groot one more time. At the end of Endgame, Groot is one of the many superheroes who returns to stop Thanos. It has been a long time since he stopped being that teenager addicted to video games that we saw in Infinity War, at what stage will we now find the character voiced by Vin Diesel?
Dave Bautista (Drax The Destroyer):
Drax the Destroyer is an essential member of the group. Once he has overcome his thirst for revenge, Dave Bautista’s character transforms into a more likable, humorous character. As with the rest of his companions, we will have to wait to see what role he has in the new film.
One of the latest news we have about the production is that Matt Damon could have joined the cast, as they had seen the actor in Sydney (Australia). Surely you remember his cameo in Thor: Ragnarok, where he played an actor who played Loki. Waititi may have found a way to re-include Damon at some point in the film.
